Kerala's Mahatma Gandhi University has opened state's first hostel for transgender students in Kottayam. Inaugurated by State Social Justice Minister R Bindu, hostel can accommodate at least six students and aims to encourage higher education among transgender community. She also highlighted need for social support, while students welcomed facility amid challenges of accommodation and high rents.
