Kerala’s prolonged mumps outbreak has taken a new turn, with researchers detecting a previously unreported virus genotype in the state, adding to concerns over the disease’s rapid spread. The finding has also put a renewed focus on vaccine policy, outbreak surveillance and the growing demand to include the MMR vaccine in the universal immunisation programme.
