She became India's first ever female IPS officer and was nicknamed as 'Crane Bedi' for dragging PM Indira Gandhi's car for violating car parking rules. She is known to have transformed the Tihar Jail, which was considered as one of the most notorious jails in India in the 1990s through her literacy and meditation program.
