Six children have died from suspected Chandipura virus infections in Gujarat in the past five days. The Chandipura virus is a member of the Vesiculovirus genus in the Rhabdoviridae family. It causes fever with symptoms similar to flu and acute encephalitis (brain inflammation). The virus is transmitted by vectors such as mosquitoes, ticks, and sandflies.
