Lab-grown blood given to humans in a world-first clinical trial

Red blood cells grown in a laboratory have been transfused into humans in a world-first clinical trial. The manufactured blood cells were grown from stem cells from donors and then transfused into two people by UK researchers. If proven safe and effective, it could help in the treatment of people with sickle cell and rare blood types.
