India's second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur was born on October 2, 1904, in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He became PM on June 9, 1964, thirteen days after the death of first PM Jawaharlal Nehru, until then Gulzarilal Nanda served as the interim PM. Shastri died in Tashkent after signing Tashkent Declaration in 1966. The reason behind his death is still disputed.
