Lalkot, the first city of Delhi originated with the Tomar dynasty in the 11th century. Anangpal II, the Tomar king, established and revived Indraprastha's glory. The city included the Qutub Minar complex and extended across south Delhi. Later, Prithvi Raj Chauhan built Qila Rai Pithora, a grand fort encompassing Lalkot. The complex boasted 276 Hindu and Jain temples.
