Largest book publisher Penguin scraps $2.2 bn merger deal with Simon & Schuster

World's largest book publisher Penguin Random House has scrapped a $2.2-billion deal to merge with smaller American rival Simon & Schuster. The development comes weeks after a US judge blocked the merger, saying it would "substantially" hurt competition for books in the publishing market. Notably, Penguin will pay a $200 million termination fee to Simon & Schuster's parent company Paramount.
