Switzerland-based researchers have simulated the formation of the entire known Universe with a supercomputer. A catalogue of about 25 billion virtual galaxies was generated from 2 trillion digital particles. The data is being used to calibrate experiments on board the Euclid satellite that will be launched in 2020 to investigate the nature of dark matter and dark energy.
