Archeologists have discovered hidden medieval​ cities using laser-based scanning hidden under a jungle surrounding Cambodia's Angkor​ Wat temple complex, the world's largest religious monument. It was constructed from the early to mid 1100s and was among the world's largest pre-industrial cities. The scans revealed a city complex, iron smelting sites and a complex system of waterways.
