The Law Commission has said IPC Section 124A, dealing with sedition, needs to be retained and recommended that punishment be increased to life imprisonment or seven years, up from the current sentence of three years. It suggested filing an FIR for sedition only after preliminary enquiry. It added sedition being a "colonial legacy" isn't a valid reason for scrapping it.
