Lawyer fined $5,000 for generating fake witness statements using ChatGPT
The New Mexico Supreme Court fined lawyer Stephen Aarons $5,000 for using ChatGPT to prepare a murder case document containing made-up police testimony and witness statements. The court held Aarons in contempt for failing to check the information before submitting it. The court said the document "contained false testimony from wholly fabricated witnesses".
