Lessons in monsoon resilience from Iron Age Bihar

Archaeologists from BSIP and ASI analyzed over 500,000 charred seeds from Uren, Bihar. They have mapped an uninterrupted 3,000-year agricultural record from 1300 BCE to 1200 CE. The findings reveal how early farmers shifted to intensive rice production and engineered water tanks to survive shifting monsoon climates.
