Lettuce needs to be refrigerated for E. coli contamination

Leafy greens like lettuce, spinach, kale, and collards are good for us but can sometimes have harmful germs. A study from the University of Illinois looked at how E. coli gets on these greens and found that refrigerating lettuce can help reduce contamination. Kale and collard greens are less likely to have E. coli and cooking them kills the germs.
