Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali revealed he was an awkward child who lied constantly at school and in his colony. On the podcast, he said he often invented stories so people would respect him and later realised the same trait shaped his characters, boys like Ved, Jordan and Harry who lie to project an identity bigger than themselves.
