Life on Earth came from inner solar system, finds study

A NASA-supported study has found that Earth acquired most of its life-essential phosphorus and nitrogen from the inner solar system, without needing a major contribution from outer solar system chondrites. Researchers examined the phosphorus-to-nitrogen ratio in iron meteorites and chondrites. Our solar system formed from gas and dust that swirled around the proto-Sun over 4.5 billion years ago.
