Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the United Stated of America on November 6, 1860. Receiving 40% of the popular votes and defeating three opponents, Lincoln became the country's first president from the Republican Party. He led the country during the civil war and abolished slavery during his tenure which ended with his assassination in April 1865.
