Madras HC: 'House husband' role can exist like housewife

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court observed that husbands sharing domestic responsibilities could strengthen marriages, while disposing a matrimonial dispute between a doctor couple. The court noted 'homemaker' is gender-neutral and cited the Supreme Court's recognition of a homemaker's economic value. The couple was granted divorce by mutual consent; husband to pay ₹2.5 crore.
