Maha CEO urges EC to drop 'new voter' from Form 6 to help deleted voters re-enrol

Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has sent a proposal to the ECI to remove the words "new voters" from Form 6, IE reported. This is so that voters deleted during SIR can re-enrol without falsely declaring themselves first-time voters and inviting legal action. However, any change to Form 6 requires Central government to amend Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
