Maha farmer creates custard apple variants, benefits 140 villages

Navnath Kaspate, a 67-year-old farmer, earned Intellectual Property Rights from the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPV&RA) after he created nearly 3,000 custard apple (Sitaphal) variants, and patented few of them. He now owns 70-acre farm and inspired 140 villages to follow his path, earning upto 12 lakh per hectare with market prices reaching ₹200 to ₹300/kg.
