Maharashtra government paid ₹6.4-crore salaries to 10 "ghost" Mumbai policemen for seven months in 2019 and 2020, a police officer's complaint revealed. The scam, in which multiple clerks have been booked, surfaced when employee data was being transferred from an old to a new salary portal. The accused clerks added outsiders' names to the payroll and even fabricated attendance registers.
