Maha govt plans to revive student council elections after over 30 years of ban

Maharashtra government plans to revive student council elections across state universities and affiliated colleges after a gap of over 30 years. It has formed a 12-member committee to frame guidelines for transparent and peaceful elections. Student elections were banned in 1993 following campus violence, including the 1989 killing of NSUI student leader Owen D'Souza outside a Mumbai college.
