Maharashtra gets 'State butterfly'

Maharashtra became the first state to have a 'State butterfly' after the Blue Mormon (Papilio polymnestor) was declared as Maharashtra's 'State butterfly' on Monday. The Blue Mormon, a swallowtail butterfly, is reportedly the second largest butterfly found in India. The step was a result of the species being one of the most neglected, an official statement said.
