Mai Bhago: the brave "Lioness of Punjab"

One of the most revered figures in Sikh history is Mai Bhago. She was the first documented Sikh woman, representative of the sant-sipahi (saint-soldier) tradition. She epitomised the loyalty and bravery of Sikh women, as she led a small army of 40 Sikhs against the mighty Mughal army of thousands. She eventually became the bodyguard of Guru Gobind Singh.
