Mass bleaching has left around 35% of the coral in​ the central and northern sections of the Great Barrier Reef off the Australian coast dead or dying, according to researchers​. This marks the worst mass bleaching event to hit the site. Aerial surveys conducted earlier had found that 93% of the Great Barrier Reef has been affected by bleaching.
