Majority of India-bound ships 'go dark' in Strait of Hormuz amid Iran threat

Around 62% of India-bound commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz are switching off their tracking systems, likely to reduce exposure to potential Iranian attacks, as per maritime data. Ships use Automatic Identification System transponders to broadcast their identity, location and destination, but in high-risk environments, they sometimes stop transmitting this data to keep anonymity.
