Male tarantula evolved extra-long genital to survive mating: Study

Researchers discovered four new tarantula species in the Arabian Peninsula and Horn of Africa with extra-long genitalia called palps located at the front of their mouth. Scientists believe these genitalia evolved because female tarantulas are highly aggressive during mating, who often end up attacking or killing males afterwards. The extended palps allow males to mate from a safer distance.
