Man gets 20 years' jail for sexually assaulting boy in Maharashtra

A court in Maharashtra's Palghar has sentenced 41-year-old man to 20 years' rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in Vasai in 2020. The court rejected the defence argument that the crime was unlikely in a crowded neighbourhood, citing 'bystander apathy'. Forensic evidence and the victim's testimony supported the prosecution case. Govari was also fined Rs 30,000.
