Man plants roses in China's desert where even grass can't grow

Gen-Z cultivator Elijian successfully planted a blooming field of roses in the Taklamakan Desert in China's Xinjiang, where even grass does not grow because of dry conditions. With the government's subsidy, water and electricity, he was able to retain the roses with 96% survival rate in the first year. "The desert produced only sand...now it produces fragrant flowers," he said.
