A 42-year-old Belgian tourist was rescued after suffering full-thickness burns on his feet at Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park, US, on July 20. After losing his shoes, he took a short walk on the dunes much hotter than the air's temperature of over 50°C. "The skin had melted off his foot," a park ranger said.
