Lalu Alam, the key accused in a case of attempt to murder West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee 29 years ago, was acquitted by a court over lack of evidence. On August 16, 1990, Alam had hit Mamata on the head with a stick and the impact had fractured her skull. Mamata was West Bengal Youth Congress President at the time.
