American fast-food giant McDonald's has announced that it is acquiring a California-based AI voicetech startup Apprente to automate its drive-thru menu. Founded in 2017, Apprente specialises in building voice-based AI agents that can take orders in multiple languages and accents. McDonald's plans to implement self-service kiosks across nearly all US and Australia restaurant locations before 2020.
