The government is considering a policy change that may reintroduce Merchant Discount Rate on UPI transactions above ₹3,000, NDTV Profit reported quoting sources. The move is aimed at supporting banks and payment service providers in managing infrastructure and operational costs. Small-ticket UPI payments would likely remain exempt, the report further said.
