German chancellor Angela Merkel has suggested expulsion from the country for perpetrators of a mass sexual offence in Cologne, acknowledging a link to Germany's migrant population for the first time. Police had received over 121 complaints of sexual misconduct on New Year's eve in Germany's Cologne and identified sixteen possible suspects, mostly of North African descent.
