Meta to start making Iris AI chip in Sept to cut Nvidia reliance
Meta plans to begin production of its in-house AI chip, Iris, in September 2026 amid efforts to reduce reliance on Nvidia and AMD. The company aims to double its computing capacity from seven gigawatts in 2026 to 14 gigawatts in 2027. Meta plans to use its own AI chips to improve the AI behind Facebook and Instagram.
