A Mexican journalist was shot dead on Monday in southern Mexico, authorities said. Fredid "Fredy" Roman was killed hours after posting a column on the alleged involvement of local politicians in the disappearance of 43 students in 2014, which investigators called a "state crime" last week. At least 18 other journalists have been killed in Mexico this year.
