Mexico win a knockout match in World Cup after 40 years

Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 in Mexico City, registering their first knockout stage win since 1986. Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez scored in the first half, while Ecuador's Piero Hincapié was sent off in stoppage time. Mexico last won a knockout match in 1986, defeating Bulgaria before losing to West Germany in quarterfinals.
