Microplastics leak invisible chemical clouds into water: Study

A recent study stated that microplastics in rivers, lakes, and oceans release invisible clouds of chemicals into water, driven by sunlight. The study examined four common plastic types and found that each releases its own unique chemical mixture, with plastics labelled as biodegradable releasing the most. Their dissolved organic matter (DOM) is more biologically active than natural organic matter.
