Microwaving plastic food containers emit billions of toxic plastic particles, a study stated. In some cases, over 2 billion nanoplastics and four million microplastics per square centimetre were released from baby food containers. The research, published in Environmental Science & Technology, showed that exposure to these particles caused significant cell death in cultured embryonic kidney cells.
