The Andromeda Galaxy, the Milky Way's nearest large neighbour, is forming far fewer new stars than before, according to a new study using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Researchers found star formation has been declining for 500 million years and dropped sharply over the last 40 million years. Scientists believe the galaxy is naturally slowing down as it evolves.
