MIT makes battery-free underwater navigation system powered by sound
short by Aishwarya Awasthi / on Monday, 2 November, 2020
MIT developed a battery-free pinpointing system, Underwater Backscatter Localization, which reflects modulated signals from its environment rather than emitting its own acoustic signals. It uses piezoelectric materials, which generate an electric charge when hit with mechanical stress, like strain resulting from a sound wave. In theory, UBL could be used to provide location information, MIT said.
