The Moon is about 40 million years older than previously thought, forming more than 4.46 billion years ago, according to a new study. Using atom probe tomography, scientists from the University of Chicago determined the Moon's age by analysing crystals originally collected from its surface during the Apollo 17 lunar mission in 1972.
