More Americans identify as Democrats than Republicans, biggest gap since 2008

According to Gallup data, 31% of US adults identified as Democrats in second quarter of 2026, compared with 25% identifying as Republicans, marking Democratic Party’s strongest standing since 2008. A Pew Research Center poll found that Hispanic and young voters who previously leaned toward Trump are now shifting toward Democrats. Meanwhile, Trump's approval rating has been below 40% for months.
