For the 1st time, a Mormon church has acknowledged the polygamy of its founder Joseph Smith, in an online essay, about 2 weeks ago. It claims that Smith had an estimated 40 wives, the youngest being 14-year-old. Polygamy was allowed during the religion's early 50 years, after which it was "strictly prohibited" as claims an official Mormon church website.
