The Shia Waqf Board today told the Supreme Court that a mosque could be built in a Muslim-dominated area at a reasonable distance from the disputed Babri site in Ayodhya. It also asserted that Babri Masjid was a Shia property and only the Shia Central Waqf Board was entitled to negotiate and arrive at a peaceful settlement of the issue.
