Mosquito-borne Usutu virus has been detected in Scotland for the first time, following the unusual blackbird deaths in the nation. The virus is mainly transmitted by Culex pipiens mosquitoes, which become infected after feeding on infected birds. They can then spread the virus to other birds, animals, and, in rare cases, humans. Its symptoms include fever, fatigue, and skin rash.
