Most distant fast radio burst ever detected
short by Anmol Sharma / on Tuesday, 12 August, 2025
Astronomers have detected FRB 20240304B, the most distant fast radio burst (FRB) ever recorded, originating about 3 billion years after the Big Bang at a redshift of 2.148. Detected by South Africa’s MeerKAT telescope and localised with James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), it originates from a young, star-forming galaxy during the universe’s "cosmic noon". Notably, FRBs last around a millisecond.
