Most of the 20 people who died in the Surat fire tragedy were students aged 17 years or below. Several students jumped off the third and fourth floors of the Takshashila Complex building in Sarthana area. While some reports suggested they were from a coaching class, some reports said students were attending extracurricular activities for summer vacations at the venue.
