Most sensitive dark matter hunt gets $34-million boost

American and Canadian governments have agreed to contribute $34 million for an experiment to search for hypothetical dark matter particles. To be constructed 2 kilometres deep inside a nickel mine and operated at -273ºC, the experiment would be at least 50 times more sensitive than its predecessor. There it will be protected from high-energy cosmic radiation that creates background noise.
