Mother’s age and down syndrome risk: NCBI insights

According to NCBI research, advanced maternal age (more than 35) significantly increases down syndrome risk. Environmental exposures, such as maternal smoking or caffeine during gestation, are linked to additional defects in affected infants. Genetic, dietary, and occupational factors may also contribute, though age remains the only well-established determinant.
